The team
Keith Mills
Having enlisted in the Royal Air Force at just 17 years old, Millsy went on to serve for 23 years as a paramedic, completing operational tours across Bosnia, Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
At the heart of his military career was his role within the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) the specialist unit tasked with flying into the most hostile environments to rescue and treat critically injured personnel. Operating from Chinook helicopters, often under fire and in austere conditions, Millsy and his team helped save hundreds of lives while pioneering clinical practices that have since been adopted by the NHS. The MERT model remains globally recognised for its speed, precision, and unprecedented outcomes in trauma care.
These experiences shaped Millsy’s understanding of what it truly takes to build and lead high-performance teams. In environments where the margin for error was effectively zero,s uccess depended upon exceptional levels of trust, communication, teamwork, resilience, and decision-making under pressure. Every mission demanded absolute clarity of purpose and the
ability to remain calm and effective in the most challenging circumstances.
What sets Millsy apart is his focus on the human element of performance. Drawing upon both military and clinical experience, he specialises in developing self-awareness and resilience as the foundations of effective leadership and teamwork. His approach equips individuals and teams with practical strategies to recognise personal triggers, apply self-management
techniques, and sustain high performance under pressure.
Importantly, these lessons are not limited to extreme operational environments. Millsy translates frontline experience into practical, relatable insights that help organisations strengthen culture, improve communication, reduce human error, and develop resilient, high-performing teams capable of thriving in both high-stakes and everyday operational settings.

Jon Lord
With over 25 years of experience in learning and development, Jon has supported individuals, teams, and organisations to overcome significant challenges and thrive—often in the most arduous and high-stakes environments. His work focuses on developing resilience, leadership, human factors, and the non-technical skills that underpin safe and effective performance under pressure.
His career has taken him across the globe, working alongside talented people in environments that demand composure, courage, and clarity of purpose. As a
Training Officer within the Royal Air Force Human Performance branch, Jon was
responsible for leading the full training cycle: analysis, design, delivery, and
evaluation. His work included specialist training in Human Factors, Adventurous
Training, and SERE (Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape) for regular forces, Special
Forces, and government intelligence services.
Jon also brings operational experience in strategic communication and behavioural influence, having led narrative and messaging campaigns on multiple deployments in Afghanistan to shape perceptions and support mission outcomes.
As an accredited Insights Discovery Practitioner, Jon uses a globally recognised
psychometric evaluation platform to help individuals and teams better understand personality preferences, communication styles, and behavioural patterns. Through the Insights Discovery framework, he supports leaders and teams to strengthen self-awareness, improve collaboration, build psychological safety, and create more effective working relationships.
Today, through Empiricl, Jon works across healthcare, construction, emergency services, and other safety-critical sectors to design and deliver CPD-accredited programmes that embed just culture, strengthen psychological safety, develop resilient teams, and build the leadership and non-technical capabilities essential to high performance. His approach combines operational credibility with practical application—helping organisations create environments where people can speak up, learn, adapt, and perform at their best.
Inspiring others to take meaningful action lies at the heart of Jon’s work as a
performance coach. He is passionate about helping people discover their flow,
explore their full potential, and build resilience that lasts.
